The full process of a short 3D moddeling challenge I set myself. I love the Chiappa Rino so much, such a cool looking revolver.
Just a little animation showing off the model from various angles and illustrating some functionality.
I first started with some flat reference images at various angles to try simulating getting some concept art.
Then a matter of tracing out the bold shapes of the design.
Adding more componants to the frame that interact seamlessly together in 3D space, like the cylinder hinges and trigger by moving them along their axis points periodically to ensure no clipping occurred.
More organic less conventional shapes
I am especially happy with the results of the use of boolean to create the ergonomic milled metal grip for the shooters fingers on the blocky design.
Adding smaller details, functional cuts in the metalwork, screws and of course the bullets.
Model cleanly unrwapped.
I am pleased with the topology of the model.
Since the model is for display as apposed to a game engine I wasn't to concerned by the poly numbers but they could be cut down.
