TankHead Tiger Pixel Art - Emerson Tung - Fan Animation

Original TankHead sprite was made by the great https://www.artstation.com/emersontung
Check out their work!
Im glad I had the oppertunity to work with them and make the squares dance.

1) I blocked out the movement I wanted. Since the Tiger was a rather advanced machine compared to what it was up against I wanted this conveyed in the movement. Smooth almost organic to show off the precision and care that went into its design and construction. German engineering eh

2) I then filled in the gaps and smoothed off the slight rotations of the arms and legs.
Then started adding more details. Fly wheels, pistons, servos, sliding armour plating all in service of showing the weight and power yet mechanical brilliance of this war machine.

3) Lastly I added the final touches .
The flag was a pain for sure haha.
But combined with the chain physics and the hiss of gasses escaping the joints it all comes together nicely!

Sharing my modular animation process in bringing large detailed sprites to life.

Step 1
Blocking out the movement. Seporating the limbs on different layers.

Step 2
Filling the gaps and adding the secondary motion, rotations of pistons and trailing motion of the limbs.

Step 3
Adding the physics on the chains and flag.

Step 4
Adding polish. I like the SFX of the jets to give the illusion of weight to the machine.
