TankHead Sherman Pixel Art - Emerson Tung - Fan Animation

Original TankHead sprite was made by the great https://www.artstation.com/emersontung
Check out their work!
Im glad I had the oppertunity to work with them and make the squares dance.

1) I started this modular animation by cutting up the original art. Then to contrast the Tiger and give the Sherman a mass produced feel I wanted it to rattle its lighter frame so this 4 frame Idle is more stiff and jerky. Then added the secondary movement.

2) Then I filled in the gaps made by my splicing. Finger joints, loose plates of armour, anything to accentuate the rattle trap look I was going for since I only had 4 frames to work with.
Then I tried smoothing out the slight rotations on this more bevelled design.

3) Finally added some polish with some looping smoke from the engine to help ground the work adding layers to the animation.

Sharing my modular animation process in bringing large detailed sprites to life.

Step 1
Chop up the sprite to block out the desired movement. Seporating the limbs on different layers helps.
